Things have certainly taken a turn for the strange around here. With well over 4000 combined Twitter, Facebook and mailing list fans you'd think someone would have noticed. Or even told us. We've been working on our next release 'Destroy' for many months, and the title song was written well over a year ago. Yet no one noticed or told us that Destroy is also the name of a music event which is about to start and has itself been in progress for many months.
It was by complete fluke we just came across it mentioned at music production website Gearslutz. Someone was talking about a photographic project that's been created by this guy called Rankin to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the charity Youth Music. It's happening now, it's been happening for ages, and it all culminates around start to middle of November - exactly when we're going to be launching our 'Destroy' EP. How the heck did that happen?
It turns out that Youth Music are a really cool charity who deserve the support of people like Rankin, who as is turns out is famous for taking iconic pictures for Dazed And Confused which he founded. Stars who he's taken pictures of have been given prints of their Rankin portraits to destroy. Yes 'Destroy'. And defame, add to, rip up, do whatever with - to be put in an art book to be sold for the charity.
The project is called 'Destroy' or 'Destroy Rankin'. It's a great idea.
Trouble is, we don't want to be seen jumping on the bandwagon of an extremely honorable endeavor but we have to release our 'Destroy' EP and use the name and artwork as it stands - everything is in place and we certainly don't have the money to change everything. Our song 'Destroy' was actually written over two years ago, but has taken this long to take its present form. Complete fluke then that it coincides with Rankin's project, and even more flukey that we'd never heard of his 'Destroy' until today. Wonder if he'd heard of ours?
Rather than look at this as something confusing for the Youth Music charity's fundraising effort we're going to see if we can turn a complete coincidence into a happy coincidence by helping raise even more awareness of what they do. We don't expect Rankin to rush out and take pictures of us, but at least if we help promote what he and Youth Music are doing we can say we used our coincidence well.

One quote that did make us smile on the site was this quote from Damien Hurst: 'The music business has collapsed, but business people don't know art, so it gives artists more room.' We'd certainly be happy if there was some unsigned or DIY bands in the Rankin book but no one's got a copy of it yet so we can't be sure.
We're now going to contact Youth Music and see if we can help in some way. These things happen for a reason! No idea how we can help or even if they want our help, but we can offer. They might not believe it either.
